The next step I want you to do is to prioritize by potential. So at this point, you have a shortlist of keywords that you think are potential good fits, or maybe you’ve exported some results from your favorite keyword tool and you have a general search out there. The goal for you here is to come up with some sort of criteria for you to identify which are the highest potential.

So maybe for your space, it’s going to be something like minimum 50 monthly volume and low competition score or something in which you noticed that there are Reddit or core pages around the question asking about what the definition of this is, but no actual competitor pages. Whatever the criteria are, essentially, you need to filter down from your 20 to 30 results to figure out what the best 10 or 15 ideas are from list.

Once you’ve narrowed down the 10 to 15 ideas that you really want to pursue, it’s all about coming up with your game plan for writing the content. So if you’re going to do this yourself, you obviously should come up with some sort of schedule for your writing. However, if you’re going to staff writers, you’re going to want to also make sure that you have a clear system as to how you’re going to do that with different writers and get them onboarded and performing.

Overall, the goal here in step number two, as you prioritize is to make sure that you are both being exhaustive in achieving that original goal of being the most comprehensive glossary out there while also lining up your bets for what you think are going to give you the data points as quickly as possible as to whether or not this idea is going to work.

Step 3: Execute and Validate

Step number three is all about executing and validating. So at this point in time, you have your best ideas out there. You have your game plan as to how you’re going to actually approach it and what your timeline is. From here, it’s all about execution. So you want to actually release these posts.

As you start to dig more deeply into things, here are a few things I want you to keep in mind:

- The first thing is longer content typically ranks better on Google. So try to make sure that each of these pages that you’re creating for your glossary have at least a thousand words of content.

- The other thing that you might find useful is as you work your way through your Google results, what I want you to look at is I want you to look at what are some of the people also ask phrases around the particular term that you’re thinking about.

So maybe for example, if I search marketing budget, I’m going to search for marketing budget and expand out some of the people also ask and what you can see are some of the common questions that people ask around marketing budgets like, what should be included in a marketing budget, what is marketing budget and a business plan, how much should a startup spend on marketing and things like that.

And so you can always use Google to help you try to fulfill the intent of what it is that you are creating content on. So I would make sure that if I were to create a section in my marketing glossary around what a marketing budget is that I would answer a few of these questions as well.

The reason why you want to answer a few of the people also ask questions is that it makes it abundantly clear for Google what this page is about and helps them prioritize and read the page more easily to deliver the best search intent to the searcher. Once you’ve written at least 10 of these posts, that would be the time in which you want to release all of this content.

I recommend that you release it as soon as you can, and then interlink everything as much as you can to show that it’s a topic cluster around the glossary page. So in other words, you’re going to have a glossary page and then you’re going to have 10 links out to each of the individual definitions of the particular terms that you’re answering.

By creating this sort of hub and spoke in which there’s a hub for the glossary and then 10 spokes for each of the phrases, you’re going to give this an adequate shot to start to see some results in your search console. So from here, what you want to do is you want to wait a little bit and then hop into your Google Search Console. And then from there, what you’re going to do is you’re going to look for the pages that you’ve created and see how they might be doing in the eyes of Google.

Your mileage may vary in terms of how quickly you’re going to rank on different pages. However, in the case where your domain rank is pretty sound, you will start to notice results pretty quickly. And so what you want to look for is some initial signs of life in which maybe the overall positioning is going up, impressions are going up and in that situation, you want to double down on the strategy.

The second that you start to see some impressions and some traffic coming in for these pages that you’ve created, you want to start fleshing out the rest of the terms that you did your research on in steps one and two. Once you’ve launched your hub page of your glossary, what you also want to do is start focusing on distribution.

So get the word out about this page you’ve created, and then also make sure it’s super easy to share your page. This is a great way for you to build up some backlinks and everybody is always looking for a great glossary. And so that can be a great way for you to also build your domain’s reputation around your niche.
